FlashMobbers started out as a simple conversation amongst a few Choir Members (from Brisbane based Community Choir – Cheep Trill. We had just finished our final rehearsal for the year… were just about to do our end of year performance, and were having a whinge about how we were going to cope until the new year of rehearsals/performances started…
I have long been fan of Flashmobs. I have been fortunate enough to participate in some myself as a performer (it is a FABULOUS experience), and have watched many many other vicariously on YouTube.
Many Flashmobs involve large groups of participants, but some, such as the Les Miserables classic “One Day More” (which is becoming increasingly popular at wedding celebrations) can be effective with a relatively few performers. I thought it would be fun to gather together a small group – of half decent singers – learn a song or two and “perform” them somewhere in public.
I then got to thinking… (which can be a dangerous thing) …. what if we somehow formed a choir that focused on a repertoire of “flashmob friendly” songs and then somehow found somewhere to perform…
Then I thought… Why stop at that… Why not provide a service which connects organisations and businesses that are looking for a FlashMob (Corporates, Events, Functions, Weddings, Promotions, etc) with performers who were actually able to provide a FlashMob (Choirs, Bands, Dance Groups, Orchestras, etc…)
…and of course, why limit that service to our own location (Brisbane, Australia)… There is no reason we shouldn’t be able to offer this globally – so everyone can potentially benefit from the Joy of FlashMobs
Many performers I know would kill for the opportunity to participate in a flashmob (it is a fun and rewarding experience in itself), and a flashmob has the potential to create significant exposure (particularly through social media) and present a fantastic marketing opportunity to showcase a product, cause, event or location.
Then I started thinking about some of the associated services that we may also be able to offer : e.g. DIY Flashmob Kits/advice, Sample Contracts, Video Production, Social Media Promotion, Sale o Musical Arrangements, etc…
FlashMobbers is VERY MUCH a Work in Progress, I am, sure we wil encounter hurdles and obstacles along the way, and our original “vision” as outlined above is likely to change and evolve along the way… but we are EXCITED about the opportunities this could offer performers and are very much looking forward to the journey.
If you’d like to find out more, have any thoughts, concerns, comments or criticisms, or would just like to participate in any way… we would very much like you to contact us.
